Procedures

Plastic surgery in Lower Manhattan

Consultations, injectables and follow-up visits are at the New York office. Surgery is performed at an accredited hospital, in Manhattan at Lenox Hill Hospital or at one of the practice's hospitals in northern New Jersey, whichever suits you and the procedure.

Face

Surgery of the face by a surgeon trained in craniofacial surgery, so the plan starts with the bone and soft tissue underneath, not just the skin.

Breast

Cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, from augmentation to microsurgical reconstruction after cancer.

Body

Contouring of the trunk and limbs, including surgery for lipedema and after major weight loss.

Non-surgical and specialty

Injectables at the New York office, and reconstructive problems that few practices take on.

Gender-affirming surgery. Dr. Ovadia was Director of the Rutgers Center for Transgender Health before founding his own practice and completed a fellowship in gender surgery at Johns Hopkins. Facial feminization, top surgery and body feminization are performed as reconstructive, medically necessary care.

Traveling here

From across the region, and across the country

Patients travel to the Manhattan office from across the country, because Lower Manhattan is the one part of the city that every system reaches: the subway, the PATH, the ferries, commuter rail, and direct rail links from all three New York airports. Most patients from New Jersey take the PATH or a ferry; patients from Long Island, Westchester and Connecticut change once from Penn Station or Grand Central; patients who fly in can reach the door from the airport without a car.

PATH from New Jersey

PATH trains from Newark Penn Station, Harrison, Journal Square, Grove Street, Exchange Place and Hoboken all arrive at the downtown terminal between Church and Greenwich Streets, about a five-minute walk from the office. From Grove Street in Jersey City the ride is under ten minutes; from Hoboken Terminal, about twelve. NJ Transit riders connect to the PATH at Newark Penn Station or Hoboken Terminal.

Ferry

NY Waterway and the Hudson River ferries from Hoboken, Jersey City (Paulus Hook), Weehawken and Port Imperial dock at the Brookfield Place terminal on the Hudson, a ten-minute walk west. NYC Ferry routes from Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Rockaway dock at Pier 11 at Wall Street, about fifteen minutes on foot or a short ride on the 2 or 3 from Wall Street. The Staten Island Ferry lands at Whitehall, three stops away on the R or W.

Commuter rail

From Penn Station (LIRR, NJ Transit, Amtrak): the 2 or 3 downtown to Park Place, about fifteen minutes. From Grand Central (Metro-North, LIRR): the 4 or 5 to Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall, about ten minutes. From Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn (LIRR): the 2, 3, 4 or 5 to Fulton Street or Park Place, about ten minutes.

Bus

The M55 runs down Broadway and stops within a block. The M22 crosses Chambers Street two blocks north, and the M15 Select Bus runs along Water Street, a ten-minute walk east. Express buses from Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens stop along Broadway and Church Street in Lower Manhattan.

Driving

From the FDR Drive, exit at Brooklyn Bridge–Civic Center and follow Park Row to Broadway. From the West Side Highway, turn east on Chambers or Vesey Street. From New Jersey, the Holland Tunnel lets out about ten minutes north; from Brooklyn, the bridge empties onto Park Row two blocks from the door. Several parking garages are within two blocks; street parking is scarce.

On foot and by bike

The office is a walk from Wall Street, the Seaport, Battery Park City, Tribeca, Chinatown and Two Bridges, and about twenty-five minutes over the Brooklyn Bridge from DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights. Citi Bike docks ring City Hall Park.

Flying in

From Newark Liberty (EWR)

The AirTrain to Newark Airport station, NJ Transit one stop to Newark Penn Station, then the PATH to the downtown terminal, five minutes' walk from the office. About forty-five minutes with no change of borough, and the easiest airport for Lower Manhattan.

From JFK

The AirTrain to Jamaica, then the E train to its last stop, two blocks from the office. About an hour. Or the AirTrain to Howard Beach and the A train to Chambers Street or Fulton Center, about seventy minutes.

From LaGuardia (LGA)

The free LaGuardia Link bus (Q70) to Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Avenue, then the E train to its last stop, two blocks from the office. About an hour. A taxi takes thirty to sixty minutes, depending on traffic.

Walking times are approximate and measured from the Barclay Street entrance. Service changes are frequent on weekends; check the MTA, PATH or ferry app before you leave.

The surgeon

Where reconstructive meets cosmetic

Dr. Steven Ovadia is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and completed two fellowships after residency: gender-affirming surgery and microsurgery at Johns Hopkins, and craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery at UT Austin Dell Children's. He performs breast reconstruction with implants and free flaps, lipedema and lymphedema surgery, facial reconstruction and gender-affirming surgery alongside facelifts, rhinoplasty, breast and body contouring.

Just as the office sits where Tribeca meets the Financial District, the practice sits where reconstructive surgery meets cosmetic surgery. Dr. Ovadia brings reconstructive principles to cosmetic surgery, planning from the structure underneath and handling tissue with a microsurgeon's care, to get the best possible result. And he brings cosmetic principles to reconstructive surgery, with attention to proportion, symmetry and where the scars fall, to get the most natural result. It also means the practice is equipped for revisions and for problems other offices send elsewhere, from injected silicone to complex breast revision. More about his training is on the About Dr. Ovadia page.

Where patients come from

Around the corner, across the city, across the country

The Manhattan office sees patients from every borough, from New Jersey, Long Island, Westchester and Connecticut, and from across the country for reconstructive, gender-affirming and cosmetic surgery. For people who live or work downtown it is a short walk; for everyone else it is one of the easiest addresses in the city to reach.

Financial District

Wall Street, Fulton Street, Water Street and the Stone Street blocks. Most patients walk over.

Tribeca

Broadway is Tribeca's eastern edge; 225 Broadway sits on its west side, a short walk from Hudson Street and Duane Park.

Battery Park City

A ten- to fifteen-minute walk along Vesey or Chambers Street, or the M22 across Chambers.

South Street Seaport

A ten-minute walk up Fulton Street, or two stops on the 2 or 3 from Wall Street.

Civic Center and Chinatown

Across City Hall Park and a few blocks up Centre Street. The 6, J and Z stop at Canal and Chambers.

Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO

Over the Brooklyn Bridge on foot, or the 2 or 3 from Clark Street or the 4 or 5 from Borough Hall, three or four stops.

Jersey City and Hoboken

PATH to the downtown terminal in about ten minutes. Consultations and follow-up visits are also held at the practice's Jersey City office.

Staten Island

The ferry to Whitehall, then three stops on the R or W to City Hall, or a fifteen-minute walk up Broadway.

Midtown and the Upper East and West Sides

The 4 or 5 express from Grand Central or 86th Street, or the 2 or 3 from the Upper West Side, about twenty to thirty minutes. Surgery in Manhattan is at Lenox Hill Hospital on the Upper East Side.

Queens and the Bronx

The E from Queens runs to its last stop, two blocks from the office; the 4 and 5 run from the Bronx to Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall.

Long Island, Westchester and Connecticut

The LIRR or Metro-North to Penn Station, Grand Central or Atlantic Terminal, then one subway ride downtown.

Across the country

Direct rail from Newark, JFK and LaGuardia. Consultations can start by phone or video, so the visit and the surgery can be planned as one trip.

Cost

Cost and insurance

Ovadia Plastic Surgery performs both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Cosmetic surgery is self-pay; please call to inquire about pricing.

Reconstructive surgery, depending on the procedure, is often covered by insurance when your plan's medical necessity criteria are met. Dr. Ovadia and his office work closely with patients and their insurance companies to seek coverage: the office evaluates the criteria and covered benefits available under your plan and prepares the prior authorization request.

Call to inquire about pricing or to ask about coverage for your procedure.

Questions

Common questions about the Financial District office

Where is Ovadia Plastic Surgery?

At 225 Broadway, Suite 3100, New York, NY 10007, at the corner of Barclay Street, directly across Broadway from City Hall Park and a few doors south of the Woolworth Building. Take the elevator to the 31st floor.

Is the office in Tribeca or the Financial District?

Both, depending on the map. Broadway is Tribeca's eastern boundary and 225 Broadway is on its west side, so by the map the office is in Tribeca. Most people who work downtown think of the City Hall and Fulton Street blocks as the Financial District. Either way it is a short walk from Wall Street, the Seaport, Battery Park City and the rest of Tribeca.

Which subway stop is closest?

City Hall (R, W) is across the street and Park Place (2, 3) is one block south. Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall (4, 5, 6), Chambers Street (A, C, J, Z), World Trade Center (E) and Fulton Center (2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, J, Z) are all within about seven minutes on foot.

I'm coming from New Jersey. What is the easiest way?

The PATH. Trains from Newark, Harrison, Journal Square, Grove Street, Exchange Place and Hoboken arrive at the downtown terminal about five minutes' walk from the office. Ferries from Hoboken, Paulus Hook and Weehawken dock at Brookfield Place, ten minutes west. If you would rather not cross the river, Dr. Ovadia also holds consultations and follow-up visits at the practice's Jersey City and Millburn offices.

Is the route step-free?

Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall (4, 5, 6), Chambers Street (A, C), Cortlandt Street on the 1 and Fulton Center all have elevators. The building has an elevator to the suite. Let us know when you book if you use a wheelchair or need extra time, and we will plan the visit around it.

Where is surgery performed?

Consultations, injectables and follow-up visits are at 225 Broadway. Surgery is performed at an accredited hospital: in Manhattan at Lenox Hill Hospital, and at hospitals across northern New Jersey, including Jersey City Medical Center, Hudson Regional Hospital, Newark Beth Israel, Overlook and Morristown. The hospital is chosen with you, based on the procedure and where you live.

Can I have surgery in Manhattan and do my follow-up visits in New Jersey, or the other way round?

Yes. The practice has offices at 225 Broadway in Lower Manhattan, in Jersey City and in Millburn, NJ. Pre-operative and post-operative visits can be at whichever is easiest for you.

Do you take insurance?

Dr. Ovadia and his office work closely with patients and their insurance companies to seek coverage for reconstructive procedures. Depending on the procedure, reconstructive surgery is often covered when the plan's medical necessity criteria are met, and the office prepares the prior authorization request. Cosmetic surgery is self-pay.

How much does a cosmetic procedure cost?

Please call (212) 222-4628 to inquire about pricing. Cosmetic fees depend on the procedure, whether procedures are combined, the hospital, and anesthesia, so they are set with your plan after a consultation.

What is different about having cosmetic surgery with a reconstructive surgeon?

Dr. Ovadia completed two fellowships after residency, in gender-affirming surgery and microsurgery and in craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery, and performs complex reconstruction every week. That training shows in cosmetic surgery as a plan built on the anatomy underneath, careful tissue handling, and an honest answer when an operation is not the right choice.

Do you offer BOTOX® and fillers at the Financial District office?

Yes. BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport® and hyaluronic acid fillers are offered at 225 Broadway. The practice's page on BOTOX® and fillers in the Financial District covers what is treated and how a visit fits around a workday.

Do you see patients who are traveling from out of town?

Yes. The office is a short walk from the PATH, every downtown subway line and the Brookfield Place ferries, and reachable by rail from all three airports: about forty-five minutes from Newark Liberty and about an hour from JFK or LaGuardia. Consultations can begin by phone or video, so you can plan a single trip for the visit and the surgery. Let us know you are traveling and the coordinator will help plan visits around your trip.
